Attend the meeting

The importance of Wednesday’s meeting with the Department of Planning cannot be overstated.

Planning Minister Tony Kelly is coming to Singleton to hear what this community has to say about the future of coal mining in Singleton and New South Wales.

The Hunter region contributes over 70 per cent of coal royalty revenue and employs around 68 per cent (over 10,000) of people in the NSW mining sector.

It is important that we all take this opportunity to voice an opinion that affects our future and that of future generations.

The meeting won’t be long. It is at the Civic Centre on Wednesday at 10.30am.

Speak up

Council’s plan to bare all through its community engagement strategy should prove to be an interesting process.

The success of this project relies on people to be honest, outspoken, forward thinking, a little flamboyant and enterprising, imaginative and to get engaged in the whole process.

If you have something to say, The Singleton Argus would love to hear.

REFERENCE TIM DUDDY

I recently had the pleasure of listening to three candidates for the up coming State election at a forum organised by the Jerrys Plains Progress Assocation. Independant candidate Tim Duddy gave a most compelling presentation. I am sure that he has gained additional support from persons at that meeting in the upcoming election.

He was articulate and obviously across the vexing issues that face 'residents' of the Upper Hunter on a daily basis. Whether it be air quality, underground water or quality of life, he really has a grip on the issues. More importantly he understands how (big) business works.

What impressed me greatly was the rhetorical question he posed, to the effect, if the Hunter Valley provides all of this wealth, where is it? It can't be seen in medical resources throughout the valley, it can't be seen in transport solutions. So where is it? Obviously no longer in Australia.

This is a person that needs support, someone who will fight like hell to ensure equity for all. Equity is what is seriously lacking.

Good luck Tim.
