THE $1.7million needed to replace the Herbert Bridge at Broke needs to be found now.
The tourism industry of Broke is booming and needs to be supported.
Attention needs to be paid to what the area needs and with the number of events, festivals, functions and art shows held in the area, the main artery of the town needs to be able to support the traffic on it.
This needs to be a priority and the plans are there ready to be acted on.
The international attention the area gets for its wines, food, landscape and ability to produce award winning grape varieties would surely put the priority of this bridge to the top of the list.
The fact that the bridge is in a ‘terminal’ condition means that it has already been left too late.
Broke not only brings millions of dollars of tourism business into the Hunter, but into the state.
The government should be made aware of the economic importance of the area to the Hunter, New South Wales and Australia and all departments contacted for suitable funding.
