THE residents of Bulga must be absolutely fed up. That rickety old bridge in the middle of their village has been repaired more times than any other piece of infrastructure in town.
The fact that the Roads and Maritime Services has just spent another whopping $50,000 on the bridge ahead of replacing the timber deck is a complete waste of tax- payers money.
The break in the decking of the bridge earlier this year was serious.
About half a metre of a complete width of the bridge snapped. This was wide enough for a car tyre, let alone a motorbike tyre and it is by pure luck no-one was injured.
That bridge can’t wait any longer for a complete replacement.
Putty Road is one of the state’s busiest roads and replacement of this bridge should be a top priority.
The fact that the repairs were called routine maintenance is an indication that the powers that be have no idea of the condition of this bridge.
One would suggest they have a quick look before someone is killed.
