Going Broke has a future

BROKE is to be commended for its fifth annual A Little Taste of Italy festival on the weekend.

It’s a theme that resonates in this area, with its fresh foods and fine wines.

Add to that the cultural zest that an Italian flavour offers, and the village festival seems assured of a future.

It has the appeal of a multi-faceted occasion encompassing music, food, wine and sport – if bocce is your taste in sport.

In this age, when global travel is common for even we remote antipodeans, overseas experiences are far more common than they once were.

To offer the cultural flavour a short car ride away, instead of a 20-hour flight, has the dual satisfaction of giving people something they want while building the familiarity of a local destination and attractions, especially the wineries of the district.

By an estimate from the organiser, 1400 people – doubtless some of them new to the area – went away impressed.

Keep up the good work, Broke, and your celebration of a decade of festivals will be a magnificent occasion.
