Integra Mine is saying it is doing all it can to assist the plight of Singleton property owner, Chris Craven(today page 3).
In fact the mine operators are doing more than is required in terms of its zone of affectation responsibilities and should be commended on their stance.
The problem lies in the lack of protection for property owners when mines start to creep closer to adjoining properties and this is clearly the responsibility of the state government.
Mrs Craven should not feel so isolated when trying to deal with the coal mining impacts of dust, noise and now smell.
Mr Craven is clearly impacted by the mine’s workings. Singleton Shire Healthy Environment Group has already raised the issue of noise related illnesses and how it can affect mental health.
Integra Coal is doing more than it is required to do under state government legislation.
It is obvious that the legislation needs to be tighter.
Mrs Craven just wants her tranquil serenity she purchased 11 years ago.
Now resigned to the fact that her country dream is over, she wants to reclaim her health and hopefully a review of her situation will see common sense prevail.
