 Sudden Funding

Sudden Funding

SINGLETON is being told enough times, there is no point wanting and wishing for infrastructure if there is nothing on the table to talk about.

Member for Hunter Joel Fitzgibbon gave Singleton residents a little hint when explaining the mineral resources rent tax that projects should be up and running, ready to go, for them to be successful in getting a slice of the cash generated by the new tax.

Local traffic blackspots like the hole in the wall and the Singleton by-pass are nothing more than a title.

The hole in the wall has been earmarked for funding but nothing has ever been done despite years of understanding that it is a potential for disaster.

The Singleton by-pass has been talked about for at least a decade.

Singleton Council has identified the by-pass as necessary to cope with anticipated increases in traffic with further development in the Upper Hunter.

But this will take time and you only have to look at the progress of the Hunter Expressway to realise the enormous amount of work that goes on before the arrival of bulldozers.

It is all well and good to say you need something but far better to have a design, a costing and the cost benefit ratio all ready should funding come up.

Strategic planning is an essential and necessary process which all levels of government need to be abreast.

There are issues in Singleton now and there is no better time to push those issues then now with all five candidates who have put their hand up for the August 21 election.

Thank you Tracey

There are teachers and then there’s Tracey Holloway.

To watch Tracey in action is a delightfully uplifting experience.

Her connection with the students and her genuine care for their well being is obvious.

And the kids love her. You can see they enjoy being around her and learning from her.

Nothing is too much trouble for Tracey. She is encouraged by watching young people grow into strong, independent adults.

She should take comfort that it is teachers like her that are making a positive difference to the lives of our young people.

This week is education week.

If you know a teacher you think deserves a pat on the back, tell them.

It can be a hard job and there is always difficult days and moments of criticism.

Some teachers handle their challenges with charm and poise, positive energy and a zest for life. People like Tracey and we thank you.
