IT was a quick glance but when Jill Scott first looked into the mirror after getting her head shaved it was to a rapturous round of applause.
With family and friends surrounding her Jill, who is battling breast cancer, took the plunge on Friday and had her head shaved.
It was a happy, smiling Jill who unveiled the style among her proud supporters.
Many commented that the new look suited their good friend who previously sported a short do.
While still getting used to her new look she told The Singleton Argus her decision was the right one as she undergoes chemotherapy treatment.
“I haven’t looked in the mirror properly yet,” she said shortly afterwards.
“(But) I’m glad it’s off……it was falling out in chunks anyway.”
Friend Betty Cant said Jill was extremely brave and said all of her friends were proud of her efforts.
“It’s sad when it (hair) comes out but she has made a fun day of it,” she said.
“There are so many beautiful wigs around now too so who needs hair!” she declared.
In a show of support, Jill’s partner Ben Haseler put his head under the clippers with the couple’s efforts raising money on the day for the Singleton Cancer Appeal and their campaign to bring chemotherapy services to Singleton Hospital.
Morning tea followed the head shaves with Carmen Lee Williams also giving a make up demonstration to give Jill a new look.
Those in attendance made donations with Jill’s business Contours holding a raffle to help raise further funds.
Anyone wishing to donate can drop into the business. Another raffle is also being run at Cheveu Hair Designs with hair dresser Karyn Harris, who offered her services free of charge on Friday, behind the fundraiser.
Carmen Lee Williams is also holding a nutrimetics shower gel drive at Contours with $2 from every four products sold donated to the Singleton Cancer Appeal.
