Despite some nerves, Singleton’s newest buskers overcame their fears and took part in Singleton Youth Venue’s inaugural Buskit.
On Saturday, 11 local youths hit John Street providing background music while shoppers went about their weekend rituals.
According to Singleton Youth Venue’s youth programs coordinator Carey Duggan the Buskit was the perfect start to local Youth Week activities and this year’s ‘Live It Now’ theme.
Mr Duggan told The Argus the event appealed to people of all ages from the buskers to the shoppers who stopped to enjoy the atmosphere and the musical talent on display.
He said the aim of the event was for young people to get some exposure for their talent.
“It gives them the opportunity to get out there in the public,” Mr Duggan said.
“We had an 11-year-old who had only been playing the guitar six months and who was as nervous as anything but his Dad said he really wanted to take part.
“At the end of the day he went home with a hat full of $30,” Mr Duggan said.
Given the success of the event, he said it would “definitely” run again.
Winners of the inaugural Buskit are as follows; 11 to 15 years; first place Megan Purkiss; second place Cameron Stalker; third place Amy Behringer and Sophie Marcheff; equal fourth place Ryan Purkiss and Georgia Davis and Jeremy Little.16 to 24 years; first place Kohde Sprules and Megan Charley; second place Shannon Walton.
