EMMA Mellows cannot believe that it was almost a year ago that she was up on stage at the Singleton Show being crowned Miss Showgirl 2008.
Recalling her hands shaking and the butterflies in her stomach, Miss Mellows said she had learnt a lot since then.
“It has been a busy year and I am sad that it is over, but I have learnt so much from the opportunities I have had with Miss Showgirl,” she explained.
Miss Mellows had terrific success in the competition wining a spot at Regional level and being selected out of 600 girls across the State to join 14 others at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
The competition is a terrific opportunity for young women to get an understanding of rural issues and politics.
“I would encourage everyone to get involved for their own personal development and they should expect to get so much more out of it than originally thought,” Miss Mellows said.
With this year’s entrants preparing for the event, Miss Mellows said she would encourage them to prepare and do some research into the local area.
“The judges are very friendly and make you feel very comfortable during the competition,” she said.
Women aged between 18 and 25 can enter for $25. For any further information contact the Northern Agricultural Association office on 6572 2039.
