SINGLETON Returned Servicemen’s Club has given the local community the opportunity to give carers some recognition for the special person they are.
The announcement of Singleton RSC’s Carer of the year will be made on November 27 and will be a night that supports those who support others.
Donna Avon wanted to do something for her community and with the support from club management initiated the awards.
“It will be a wonderful night to show the community and carers of Singleton just how much they are appreciated,” she said.
Seven people from the community were nominated with five accepting. A panel of judges determine the winner from the entry forms that required a 25 word or less description of why the nominator is entering a carer.
The nominees are
Janet Ray – an extremely generous person who gives much of her time to the Anglican Parish and Mission group, Youth off the Streets, Christian book centre and Mercy Rest Home.
Shirley Kelly – is always there for everyone when she is needed and assists her nominator with transport for medical treatment and everyday tasks.
Bruce Knight – a very special person who has helped his nominator through very difficult times when dealing with the loss of a partner.
Janice Lawrence – established the community kitchen, home schools her special needs daughter and is the primary carer for her mother.
Marianne Reynolds – has cared for her aged parents for approximately two years , firstly as a drop in carer then as a live in carer. During this time her husband was diagnosed with a brain tumour, Marianne continued to care for all three loved ones until the sad death of her husband earlier this year.
The presentation awards night will be held at the Singleton Heights Returned Servicemens Club at Alroy park complex on November 27 from 6.30pm. Tickets must be purchased before 5pm Monday.
