LAKE Liddell recreation area will be the location for a group of Climate Change Activists who are calling on anyone interested in finding out more about the controversial issue to come along.
Five days of workshops and forums on climate change issues and solutions, along with music and entertainment will complete the camp.
Spokeswoman Naomi Campbell said they were hoping that people will come together for the five day camp to show big business and the government that strong action needs to be taken on climate change.
“We need to stop the reckless expansion of coal-fired power stations,” she said.
“It’s an event for everyone, whether you have spent a lot of time campaigning or just want to learn more about it; about campaigning or air quality and water issues.”
She said there was no need to attend all five days, and a stronger local focus was called for on the last two days.
The group chose the location as the nearby Bayswater power station is, they believe, a polluter that emits the equal largest source of CO 2 emissions in Australia and is the site of one of the planned new power stations.
Climate Camp coincides with the next round of UN global climate talks in Mexico and will culminate with a peaceful mass action against coal-fired power generation at Bayswater Power Station.
The event begins on Wednesday December 1 and will go until Sunday December 5.
