THE local campaign against Coal Seam Gas is being taken to Sydney to help another community fight the exploration.
Members of the Hunter Valley Protection Alliance and executive officer John Thompson will be protesting in Sydney in support of the St Peters community who got the shock announcement of approval of an exploration drill site.
A protest is taking place at the site on Sunday with Mr Thompson a guest speaker.
“We are going to help answer their questions and give them as much information as we can about what they can expect,” he said.
“St Peters has had nothing in terms of consultation about this.
“They didn’t have a clue.”
The Coalition of Coal and Gas Communities Forum in Broke on November 6 saw the formation of the Lock the Gate Alliance.
As a group, the Alliance is calling for an immediate moratorium on all coal mining and all unconventional gas mining (including coal seam, shale and underground coal gasification) approvals until a robust legislative framework is in place.
At Singleton Council’s ordinary meeting last month it was resolved to ban coal seam gas exploration and development in Singleton’s grape growing regions.
The protest on Sunday starts at 11am and is being held on the corner of Campbell Road and Euston Street, St Peters.
The list of guest speakers includes Chris Harris, Greens City of Sydney councillor.
