SINGLETON’S Theatrical Society’s (SATS) production of Dusty has past the audition stage and rehearsals have just started with actors trying to get the words and steps down pat.
The production this year takes the path of the drama that was Dusty Springfield’s life including her music, her battle with alcohol, her lesbianism and her fight with cancer.
Kate White and Claudia Wood have taken the main roles playing Dusty Springfield at different stages in her life with Claudia playing the younger part when she was known as Mary O’Brien.
Other lead roles were given to Monique Chalker who takes the role of Reno, Dusty’s friend and girlfriend.
Kane Gavin plays Rodney Dusty’s hairdresser, Chryse Levick is Peg, Dusty’s personal assistant.
Dusty’s parents Kaye and OB will be played by Janet Sandford and Jon Doughty.
“This will be the first time the show has appeared on Singleton stages and is a fairly recent Australian production written in the last 10 years.”
“Those who enjoy Dusty’s music will be glad to know there are 40 songs by her that feature in the show but it’s about more than the music,” said director Mark Smith.
The show will start on Friday June 15.
