MINING issues will be key in the August 21 election with all three candidates for the Hunter keen to debate the issues.
Three people have put their hand up to run for the seat of Hunter.
Joel Fitzgibbon has held the seat since 1996 and will again contest the seat.
Michael Johnsen is the Nationals candidate and revealed his intention to run about a month ago.
The Greens announced a candidate for the Hunter at the weekend in Chis Parker from Buchanan (near Kurri).
Candidates were out and about in the Hunter yesterday, Mr Johnsen doing a streetwalk of Singleton businesses and Mr Fitzgibbon visiting Branxton and Greta.
The mining tax, air monitoring, Singleton bypass, the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), a sustainable environment, renewable energy sources and infrastructure are just a few of the topics that will be at the forefront of political debate over the next five weeks.
All three agree it is time the money started coming back to the Hunter.
Over the next few weeks The Singleton Argus will pose questions to our candidates to allow those on the electoral roll an opportunity to learn more about the candidates.
