COAL seam gas objector Stewart Ewen welcomed today’s public information meeting about a proposed $300million high-pressure pipeline which would run through the Singleton shire.
The meeting, at Elderslie Community Hall between 3pm and 7pm, has been organised by Eastern Star Gas.
Eastern Star is behind a 286 kilometre pipe to pump gas from central western New South Wales to a proposed $1.5billion liquefied natural gas export terminal on Newcastle’s Kooragang Island.
“There is so much going on in the coal seam gas industry that the public is unaware of, so meetings like this help raise awareness,” said Mr Ewen who is chairman of the Hunter Valley Protection Alliance which is mainly opposed to coal seam drilling in the Broke and Bulga areas.
“The impacts of coal seam gas are immense on the community generally and individuals on a personal level.
“This sort of meeting is a starting point for people to be more fully informed so they can clearly express their opinions to government representatives who don’t seem to have a full understanding of the situation.”
The Elderslie session will be informal and allow people to ask questions and view displays and fact sheets dealing with topics including the continuation of farming activities above the buried line and how compensation will be paid for disruption during the construction phase.
