WORKING around the constant train movements of a busy coal freight rail track is a logistical nightmare.
So far, the trains have been flowing freely and Minimbah Bank Third Track Project project manager, Darren Mosman, is pleased.
Accommodation of the track’s constant use is just one of a million pieces to the puzzle of a construction site never before seen so publicly in Singleton.
When Mr Mosman was assigned the role as project manager he was excited for a couple of reasons.
The magnitude of the job was topped by one very important bonus, he is now working close to home.
“It is certainly the biggest project I have been involved in but the location is perfect, I live at Morpeth so I am close to home,” Mr Mosman said during a quick trip around the site on Tuesday.
So far the project has been smooth sailing.
The job’s demand for heavy machinery and a skilled workforce hasn’t been the challenge it may have been.
“The job started just at the right time, we contracted John Holland and they had people finishing up jobs so in terms of the timing, it was right,” he said.
The worker numbers are flexible, depending on the work at hand, and most of these workers are staying overnight in Singleton.
“I don’t think you would find a hotel or motel room anywhere in Singleton or Branxton, some people with longer contracts have rented units, it has got to be good for the area,” he said of the economic boost.
His only request is that people be tolerant of the work.
“We ask that drivers be sympathetic to the work going on, we know there are locals driving the roads on a daily basis but we have to be aware of traffic safety,” he said.
