KELSO Street traffic conditions may be improved by a road widening plan.
With the aim to improve a section of the road for both residents and road users, Singleton Shire Council has a plan on public view of a widening proposal.
The proposed plan would see a distance of approximately 440metres widened along Kelso Street between Bathurst and Edward Streets.
The proposal includes expanding the existing distance of 10.06 metres from boundary to boundary to 14.66 metres.
Singleton Shire Council director operations Gary Woodman explained that the widening would include 1.83 metres of footpath on both sides, 2.5 metres of parking lane on both sides and two, three metre wide traffic lanes in the middle.
The land proposed for the road widening is shown as Lots 1-16 in DP 1128547.
“That area is part of the old Singleton town road reserves and the ten metre wide road reserve that is currently there is too small,” he said.
According to Mr Woodman a proposal to widen parts of Kelso Street has been with council since the 1960s but due to Local Environment Plans it has been difficult to move forward.
“In mid 2008 it was decided that a report to finalise a proposal be submitted in order to progress forward,” he said.
The plan comes under council’s Urban Road Improvement program and Developer Contribution Roadworks program.
Mr Woodman told The Singleton Argus that council had been in contact with some land owners.
“Most responses from land owners have been positive,” he added.
The plan of the proposed widening of Kelso Street can be viewed at Singleton Shire Council, Monday to Friday between the hours of 8.30am and 4.30pm.
Any person is entitled to make submissions to the Minister or Singleton Shire Council with respect to the proposed plan.
