KIRKTON Public School looked more like the set of a Dr Seuss film on Wednesday with its students bearing a striking and almost uncanny resemblance to some of its characters.
The school’s annual wacky hair day brought out the most colourful, weird and just plain crazy hairstyles with students using their creativity to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.
The fundraiser was part of the World’s Greatest Shave with year six students, Josh Thompson and Jackson Skinner, having a date with the hair clippers.
The school clapped and cheered as the two had their head shaved while others in the school got theirs sprayed for the occasion.
Over $130 was raised on the day with Josh and Jackson adding their donations from family and friends on top of that.
To raise money, the boys collected donations from the school and wider Belford community adding to Kirkton Public School team’s tally for the World’s Greatest Shave.
This is the third year Kirkton has taken part in the World’s Greatest Shave with brothers Ben and Peter Loss losing their locks the past two years.
The Leukaemia Foundation is a cause close to the school’s heart with kindergarten student Jaci Loss, Peter and Ben’s sister, having battled the disease.
Six-year-old Jaci, who was diagnosed at age two, is now two years post treatment, happy and healthy.
Jaci’s mother, Heather Loss, a teacher at Kirkton said the greatest shave was to raise money but to also help children understand the disease.
