Mine seeks opinions

A LETTERBOX drop by Specialty Coal seeks public opinion on a proposal which will see 100 trucks pass through Singleton a day.

The letters were delivered during the past week to those residences who live along the road route for the proposed coal haulage.

The proposal is to haul the coal by road from the mine along Cranky Corner Road, Glendonbrook Road, Gresford Road, across Redbournberry Bridge and down Queen Street, into John Street and left in Campbell Street.

From here the trucks will turn left onto the New England Highway and onto the rail coal loader at Rixs Creek.

The trucks will then return to the mine via a similar route.

The letters included a stamped-self addressed envelope for responses and project developer Peter Murray said he would be happy to personally discuss the proposal with anyone.

In the letter Mr Murray said either he, another staff member of Speciality Coal or a consultant will visit residents in their own home or premises to discuss the proposal and its impact.

The community consultancy process is part of the mandatory consultation process for inclusion in an environmental impact statement.

When completed, the environmental impact statement will be lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Natural Resources for inclusion in the mine's development application.

Those wishing to comment can do so by writing to Mr Murray at Specialty Coal Pty Ltd, 23 Corona Street, Hamilton 2303.
