Mt Pleasant Public School

03 Aug, 2010 10:54 AM
THE multi-purpose activity and education centre at Mt Pleasant School is one more step closer to becoming a reality.

The school won a $5000 grant from the Ego Pharmaceutical’s MOOV community grant project.

Only three grants were given and over 500 entries were received. But it was the creative and enthusiasm in the Mt Pleasant entry that won over the judges.

For the school’s P&C grants officer Liz Palmer, the announcement of the funding has allowed for the final stage of the project, the purchasing of grandstand seating.

The appeal of Mt Pleasant for judges of the competition is the way the project provides for the wider community.

Mrs Palmer explained that the centre will be used for a variety of school and community activities such as visiting educational programs, outdoor classrooms, sporting events, community and group training courses plus important social events.

She added that the application was a fun one and very enjoyable to complete.

“It only required 100 words and so we did a creative DVD on how our school and community would benefit from $5000,” she explained.

“The school has always been an important community hub and the development helps bridge the gap ensuring local residents of our rural community aren’t disadvantaged through lack of access to facilities,” she said of the project.

Sales representative for the Hunter and Central Coast Jason McKendry said the DVD was a fantastic display of the project and how it would benefit the entire community in addition to being a school sports facility.

He said MOOV judging panel were impressed with the school’s level of support and community involvement in putting together a submission.

Mr McKendry said the important thing about the grant is that it is not population based.

“It is about what is prominent and important to a community,” he said.

Mr McKendry presented the school with a plaque telling the students that while ever the facility stands, the plaque will remind them of the hard work that everyone has done to achieve such a great result.

Mrs Palmer said the grant will fast-track the final stage of the facility with the cement slab expected to be laid in the next few weeks.
