OPPORTUNITY to gain experience in a new role convinced Kristen Kime to take up the principal position at Milbrodale Public School.
After just one week, Ms Kime said she already loves the job and the picturesque drive to work.
Ms Kime joins Milbrodale from Singleton Heights Public School and has been a teacher for more than 13 years.
“I’m loving it out here, there’s a lot of work being both teacher and principal and it’s a learning curve with the administrative work but the school has a lot to offer.
“There are the great surroundings that make it peaceful and tranquil and the amount of resources the school has is quite impressive,” said Ms Kime.
Ms Kime said her first goal is to get more enrolments by getting the school out in the public eye.
“We need to get in the community, get a newsletter into community papers, offer open breakfasts for community members show them what the school has to offer,” said Ms Kime.
The school has smart boards, computers and Ms Kime believes that by being small it has advantages in that it can tailor for individual education programs.
“Doubling our numbers or getting a full classroom would be a great achievement in the first year,” she said.
When it comes to teaching Ms Kime says she is firm but fair.
“I try and have a balance between making sure the requirements of the curriculum are met and that students are learning but are still having fun.”
“The P and C and the local community is very much behind the school staying open and we’re determined that every child that comes here gets a great education,” said Ms Kime.
Last year the New South Wales Education Department was on the verge of closing Milbrodale Public School due to low student numbers.
But a significant increase in students in the fourth term saw them granted a reprieve.
