NEW Ambulance station officer Michael Smalley knows he has his work cut out for him.
His role will test all aspects of his paramedic training and some.
With his last posting at Moree, Michael has come to Singleton in a role that will see him enjoy the challenge of also providing his colleagues with managerial support.
“I am really looking forward to supporting the team here, who have been very welcoming and helpful in settling me in,” he said.
“The station in Moree comes under a different division and each division does things slightly different to another.
“Also being a small country town, you have to understand the dynamics of the community and that will also apply here.”
A paramedic for 11 years, Michael was posted at Moree for two years after time in Sydney.
His posting to Singleton will see him with different and new responsibilities, something he sees as a challenge and something he is looking forward to.
“I have the responsibility of maintaining the station in terms of resources, assets, staffing and coordinating a station and its paramedics,” he said.
The incidents he attended in Moree were mostly farming and required lengthy trips to and from accidents due to the location of most properties.
Unlike Singleton the Moree station did not have the support of a helicopter, something he understands Singleton calls on frequently.
“I have not had to deal with mining injuries before but the team here are very experienced,” Michael said.
Michael has started working out the personalities at the Singleton station since his first shift on March 1.
April will see him in another very exciting experience with the marriage to his paramedic fiancé in the local vineyards.
After their honeymoon she will be posted to Newcastle.
