TEMPERATURES soared yesterday and families flocked to the coolness of the water at the Singleton Gym and Swim.
The toddler pool was inundated with littlies and mums as they splashed, floated, slid and jumped in the shaded pool.
The Singleton Gym and Swim’s learn to swim program has been pushed to the limits with eager parents wanting to get their children learning about water safety.
Over 600 registrations were taken for term four of the program with participants ranging in age from six months to adult.
The importance of learning to swim is heightened in summer each year as tragedies about pool, beach and dam drownings occur around the country.
According to Royal Life Saving Australia 60 per cent of all toddler drownings occur in the child’s home and 41.5 per cent of toddler drownings occur in swimming pools.
Term one of the learn to swim program starts on January 24.
Week one of summer intensive programs will be taking place on January four and week two will commence on January 11.
Learning to swim is a lesson for life and anyone at any age can learn.
