IT is not usual to change your name when you turn 20 but that is exactly what the Singleton Home and Community Care did on Wednesday.
Now known as Ourcare Services Inc. the celebration incorporated the name change, extension of services, the new building additions and a visit from the Minister for Ageing, Disability Services and Aboriginal Affairs Paul Lynch.
The minister described the organisation as being particularly impressive.
“Funding says volumes about the organisation, management team and the partnership they have with Government and community providers,” he explained.
“The Government does not give out money lightly.
“The fact that the service has obtained over a million dollars for the 2009/2010 financial year is an indication of its professionalism.”
Recognising the support Ourcare Services Inc has from its volunteers, Mr Lynch said he was inspired by Singleton’s community spirit.
“The 250 plus volunteers that this service has is a true indication of the community’s willingness and desire to support one another,” the minister said.
Ourcare Services Inc. board of directors chairperson Barry Bartrop thanked the minister for attending the 20 year celebration and gave recognition to management and staff who have continuously worked hard to provide the services to clients.
“Thanks to good cooperation from Singleton Council and Wayne Kempster Building, the extensions to the community services building allow us to now offer our services in a single access point,” he said.
Mayor Sue Moore congratulated the Ourcare Services Inc team and spoke of her own personal appreciation for the service it provided.
“I also thank you on behalf of the community,”she said.
