DREAMS of an 18-hole golf course at Gowrie are not lost despite a major setback this week.
The project took a hit with news that a federal magistrate made bankruptcy orders against Gowrie Links facilitator Glenn Carroll and in doing so declared a “miracle” was needed to secure finances to fund the project.
The revelations have stunned the Singleton Golf Club and its members however Singleton Golf Club Gowrie committee chairman, Peter Eason, said the project was “definitely not dead”.
“It’s not the end,” Mr Eason told The Singleton Argus yesterday.
“Glenn Carroll is one part of the Overdean Group (Mr Carroll owns 25 per cent of the Overdean Group who are developers of Gowrie Links) but that doesn’t mean the Overdean Group is affected,” he said.
“I guess the concern is the judges’ comments about the current funding and that it will need a miracle to secure funding. . . that’s a worry.”
Yesterday, Mr Eason was drafting an email to his members to explain the current situation made public on Wednesday.
“The Singleton Golf Club will work with the Overdean Group to see what options exist if the current funding (for the project) doesn’t come through so the development can still go ahead,” he said.
“They are working hard to secure the funding but unfortunately the Golf Club doesn’t always discover all of the details.
“We have to run with what we’re being told and sometimes what we’re told doesn’t eventuate.
“This seems to be a pattern with this development” he said.
Mr Eason said it was disturbing to hear of the bankruptcy orders against Mr Carroll adding that he had been a good supporter of the club.
Mr Eason said the Singleton Golf Club was not implicated in the court proceedings and would continue to work with the Overdean Group and Singleton Council to make it as easy as possible to get the development underway.
The Golf Club will find out on Wednesday whether the Overdean Group has the funds available to finance the project.
