NO one else heard the words uttered between the Commander of the School of Infantry Tony Egan and graduating soldier Private Cameron Furse.
You can be assured those words would not be unlike the words of wisdom shared between father and son.
The parting words before a young man heads off to battle is precisely what the march out parade is all about.
On Wednesday, 40 members of 5 platoon took part in their march out parade marking the end of their 26-week initial employment training for the Australian Army.
Families of the 40 soldiers travelled from throughout Australia to witness the event.
Pte Furse earned the best battle honours award after outstanding presentation at the school and was presented with his trophy during his platoon’s march out parade.
While Lt. Col Egan is unlikely to say it, passing on such an award is one he does with a certain degree of hesitation.
You see, by the end of the year this young man, in the prime of his life, will be serving his nation in operations around the world.
Those destinations include Afghanistan and Iraq.
