Taste of Italy

01 Apr, 2010 09:27 AM

Pulsing from a central location in the heart of Broke, you can collect your passport to travel to a collection of some of the finest produce, wine and food creators in the Hunter Valley.

The Broke wine region will be alive with music, cooking and activity, so come and join in the fun for a fantastic weekend to please all.

Stroll through the long aisles of the groves and pick fresh olives straight from the trees.

Taste some of the finest traditional wines along with locally grown Italian Varietals and some imported wines.

Nine venues are involved in the festival this year so expect the hills to be filled with the sound of Italian music and an aroma of Italian food, traditional Italian desserts such as tiramasu and gelato.

Visit four of the nine venues over the weekend and you will have the chance to share in a prize draw full of Broke Fordwich experiences of overnight stays, lunches, wine tastings and tours of olive groves and vineyards.

Catherine Vale will have market stalls, cooking demonstrations, music, food and wine. II Cacciatore is catering for a dinner on Saturday night which also features Italian music. Bookings for the dinner are essential.

Somerville Wines has wine tasting all weekend, Italian music and food and features a sausage making demonstration.

Broke’s Promise also features Italian wine and food. Visit the sculpture garden and spend in the gift gallery.

Margan Wines offers alfresco lunch Saturday and Sunday and a dinner on Saturday night. Bookings for the dinner are also advised.

At Mount Broke you can indulge in La Dolce Vita with dessert all weekend long. Enjoy a plate of antipasto and a glass of Barbera, tiramasu and other classic Italian desserts.

Nightingale Wines has a long lunch on Saturday and dinner on Saturday night. Choose from the blackboard menu on Sunday.

Pickled and Pitted/Riverflats Estate gives visitors the chance to dabble in some olive picking. Lap up the Italian music and atmosphere over an authentic woodfired pizza and select from the coffee and icecream cart.

Broke Estate has food on offer all day. Relax over a plate of antipasto or bruschetta and enjoy the music and wines.

Whispering Brook also has fine food and wine both days with a special treat on Sunday with a parade of Italian Inspired couture millinery at 12pm on Sunday and a hat making demonstration.
