AN afternoon beer at the pub hatched an adventure this group of lads won’t forget – all while raising money for a good cause.
The crew of seven has signed on for Cystic Fibrosis’ Australia’s Great Escape, a 10-day rally starting in Wagga Wagga on October 12 and finishing in Port Macquarie.
The rally is a major fundraiser of the Cystic Fibrosis Australia organisation that aims to raise awareness about the genetic disease.
This year 54 teams from across Australia have signed up with local team, Team Juggernaut, the lone Singleton contingent.
The rally is somewhat of a competition between participants to see who can come up with best and most outrageous beat up rally vehicle.
Team Juggernaut has a contender for the best of the beasts.
The team made up of four mechanics, an electrician, a truck driver and a driller have put their skills to use, salvaging and remodelling a custom made International Acco 510A as their vehicle of choice.
The truck, a former police rescue vehicle, has occupied plenty of time with the crew consisting of Matt Carroll, Peter Shore, Kieran Nugent, Adrian Bond, Anthony Kropp and Adam and Gary Evans working on it for the past four-months.
Team Juggernaut member Kieran Nugent told The Singleton Argus the beat up truck had caused plenty of dramas for the team but the effort was all for a worthwhile cause.
“We started work in April and it’s been lots of headaches since then,” Mr Nugent said.
“It was basically knackered, every time we touch something it goes, the clutch, the radio, the brakes we’ve had to fix the lot.
“We’ve had to get rust cut out and seats fitted, the list is endless.”
Team Juggernaut, rally vehicle number 351, will start their Great Escape on October 12 in Wagga Wagga travelling via Bourke, Hillston, Tibooburra and Durham Down before finishing in Port Macquarie on October 22.
A three time rally participant, Mr Nugent said the experience would be memorable for the first timers taking part.
“They’ll certainly enjoy themselves,” Mr Nugent said.
“There are a lot of good people that take part, it’s not just a party but reward for all the fundraising we do,” he said.

Locals wanting to check out Team Juggernaut’s rally vehicle have the chance this weekend with the bus acting as a shuttle service from town to the Cockfighter Tavern at Bulga on Saturday for a team fundraiser.
The Shuttle service will leave from the Imperial Hotel from midday. The fundraiser will run into the afternoon with auctions and raffles throughout the event.
Meanwhile, the team will also hold a fundraiser at the Imperial Hotel today from 4pm until 7pm also raising money to reach the team’s set target of $25,000 for Cystic Fibrosis Australia.
