Cricketers face hot conditions

20 Nov, 2009 11:56 AM
KEEN cricketers took to the field last weekend after the prior week’s wash out and very much enjoyed the games.

This week looks like being very hot which should mean some great cricket so please remember to slip, slop, slap and remember to keep up the fluids. There has been a change to the Friday night games which have been transferred to Cook 1 and Cook 2.

After four weeks of games the implementation of official umpires in 12s, 14s and 16s has proven to be a wonderful success and the young men have been doing a great job.

Thanks to Bradley Cox, Clinton Harmon, Andrew Winsor, Abe Gibson and Patrick Denniss it is very much appreciated and great to see you giving back to cricket.

At our monthly meeting it was approved that an expansion to all grades of the under 10s rule permitting batting team players to field for the bowling team, if the team is short.

Under 12s

At Alroy Oval, Glendon 7/67 took the points over JPC 66. For JPC, Joseph O’Brien knocked up 12 runs and the bowlers were Lewis Hamilton 3 /3 and Daniel Bray 2/3. David O’Rourke has shown a great improvement and Tristan Muir took a great catch. All players displayed great teamwork. For Glendon, no report.

At Cook 2, Valley 2/89 did not put enough runs on the board and PCH were able to make 5/103.

For Valley, Alex Belcore batted confidently for 25 and Zac Butler got a good start with 17 and with the ball Bjorn Oloffson took 1 wicket and Sam Barry took 2 wickets. Leo Hicks-Wolffe and Oloffson showed the spirit of the game and fielded well for PCH. Alex Belcore also took a lovely one handed catch over his head . For PCH, all bowlers were very tight. Jesse Mackaway took a wicket in his first game back with Abraham Jones getting a direct hit run out. PCH started well in the run chase with Travis Batch (15), Will Holz (15) and Albie Cullen retired on 26 and all batted extremely well.

The Henry brothers, Zac and Bryce, missed out with the bat this week with Jess Mackaway and George Alexander guiding the team home with 6 and 11 not out respectively. All the boys bowled and fielded well to restrict Valley to 89 on a good wicket and then backed it up with good running between wickets and sensible batting.

Under 14s

At Howe Park, JPC 1/66 defeated Valley 3/58. For JPC Kyle Bailey took 2/1 and Thomas Bray hit 31 and Nic Stokes was 27 not out. For Valley, Chris Duffie made a run out and batted well. Alex Sheen also batted well and the Valley side made a good team performance.

At Cook Park 1, PCH batted first to make 1/138 before dismissing Glendon for 9/58. For Glendon, Jackson Cameron batted very well making 15 runs.

For PCH, Cale Rainey hit 35 and Braden Frohloff made 36 before both retiring and were supported by Daniel Jordan on 21. The wickets were shared between Daniel Taylor 3/8 off 3 overs and Belinda Winsor 2/3 off 2 overs.

Under 16s

At Cook 4, Valley dismissed Glendon for 10/88 before hitting 5/94. For Glendon, Ethan Richards batted well for a solid 34 and Jake Daniels a well deserved 20. For Valley, a great partnership (49) between Zach Knight 34 and Jack Marskel (20) helped Valley to a good win. Some great bowling by Robbie Lopes 4/5 who was the stand out bowler with great support from Jarrod Campbell 2/7.

At Cook 3, PCH 5/89 defeated Creeks all out 50. For PCH, Jack Willis performed well with ball and bat scoring 24 runs and taking 2 wickets for 1 run off 2 overs. Jackson Cox showing great batting for 41 runs. Abe Gibson tried a new position behind the stumps, giving away 3 byes, proving no challenge to our usual keeper.

For Creeks, an always improving side with new comer, Matthew Richardson, getting his first wicket before ending with 2 wickets for 7 runs. Always keen and reliable Zaid Arain took 1/7 and hit 16 runs and Aaron Brennan took 1 /4 and Joey Butler made 8 before being caught.

Under 10s

At Albion Park, Glendon 117 runs and 10 outs played Valley 119 runs and 4 outs. For Valley, Isaac Barry scored 21 runs and no outs, Hayden Campbell 14 runs and no outs. Ethan Burns took 3 wickets for 11 runs and Preston Miller took 1 wicket for 11 runs. Player of the match for consistent effort was Otto Bailey. Great bowling by Jake Domek and Taylor Knight. At Victoria Square, PCH/Valley hit 86 for 5 outs and PCH made 122 for 3 outs. For PCH/Valley, there was great batting from Nell Gibson facing the pace of Glen Winsor, and much improved bowling from the Perera brothers, Malaka and Chanuka, each taking a wicket.

Ethan Smith played great all-round cricket and took home the player of the match bag of lollies. It’s great to see the kids enjoying their cricket even though they lost – that’s a winning attitude. For PCH, as a team, PCH worked hard in the field, pouncing on every ball.

Blake Edwards smothered the ball as wicket keeper and Mitch Cullen dived and rolled to stop every ball that came near him.

The sportsmanship from both sides is to be commended. Keep up the good work. The man of the match was Tristan Pritcher taking 2 for 10 while Cody Rowe’s enthusiasm ensured he took a wicket and fielded effectively. Hayden Bourke scored 18 runs and looked extremely professional when throwing in to claim a run out.
