Greyhounds’ top awards

THE Criterion Hotel Singleton Greyhounds celebrated another successful season in 2009 when they recently held their presentation night. The club had all three Group 21 sides reach the grand finals, with the under 18s achieving a premiership, and the under 17s making the final of the Hunter Valley Junior competition.

The major sponsor of the club, The Criterion Hotel, were represented on the night by Tim Ryan and Trent Lamont.

The Radiator Express under 17s awards went to Jordan Duxberry- Most Dedicated and Most Improved, Nicholas Cox- Most Consistent, Zac Howlett- Best Back, Max Willis- Best Forward and Best and Fairest, Ryan Morgan- Players Player.

The Singleton Tyre and Battery Centre under 18s awards went to Marty Carroll-Most Dedicated, Jarrad Castledine- Most Improved, Scott Griffiths- Most Consistent, Kerrod Holland- Best Back, Dale Watson- Best Forward and Best and Fairest, Players Player was shared by Dale Watson, Scott Griffiths and Jarrad Castledine.

The Moore and Baxter reserve grade awards were won by Brendon Landers- Most Dedicated, Tom Cox- Most Improved, Clint Evans- Most Consistent and Best Back, Cliff Newling- Best Forward, Kirk Solman- Best and Fairest and Players Player.

The Bradken first grade award winners were Luke Holz- Most Dedicated and Players Player, Brad Grant- Most Consistent, Trent Green- Best Back, Michael Millgate- Best Forward, Scott Matthews- Best and Fairest.

The player of the finals series awards went to Nicholas Cox - u17s, Kerrod Holland - u18s, Matthew Carroll- reserve grade, Ed Fisher- first grade.

The Ron Fay Best Defensive Player award was won by Michael Millgate. The highest pointscorer was Brendon Landers-106 points (two tries, 46 goals) and Geoff Simpson scored the most tries with 20.

Jarrad Castledine won the Max White Memorial award and Bryan Kirkland was the Club Person of the year.

Special presentations were also made to Dale Watson, Kerrod Holland and Jason Austin for representing NSW Country under 18s.

Darryl Smailles was presented with Life Membership for his service to the club over the last 15 seasons. The under 18 sides were presented with premiership jackets.

The Jetset Travel Rookie of the Year award winner was Kurt Neely and the Criterion Hotel Player of the Year was Michael Millgate.

At the end of the night coaches for next season were named with Russell Richards as first grade, Geoff Simpson to coach reserve grade and Gary Gardner/ Paul Neely both awarded the under 18s.

Club jumper day is Sunday, October 25 at 11am at The Criterion Hotel and the annual meeting is November 8 at 10am.
