SIXTEEN-year-olds Sam Walker and Chase Hamilton will represent New South Wales blues after being selected in the State under 19s soccer team to contest the Combined Christian Schools national carnival.
The talented soccer duo, who are both friends, will rack up their second New South Wales appearance when they contest the national titles next month, both were picked in the side last year.
The year 10 soccer pair, who attend Maitland Christian College, were selected for the squad earlier in the year and will travel to Forrest Field, Perth for the carnival.
The carnival will be held from October 1to 6.
Sam will run onto the field as centre back while Chase will play on the wing.
The pair train every Monday night at Speers Point with their fellow under 19s players, and with last year’s experience under their belt, they feel confident of their team’s chances this year.
As with any national carnival they expect the opposition to be tough.
“Last year, we were only 15, they were 18s,” Sam said.
“I’m six foot two some of them were like seven foot, they are physically bigger and stronger and fitter,” he said.
Sam told The Singleton Argus playing at a national level required both he and Chase to muscle up against the opposition.
“Their mind set is different, they have to win, and it’s a totally different game. You really have to put your body on the line,” he added.
Over the six-day carnival, the boys will play two 90 minute games each day against Tasmania, Victoria, Western Australia, South Australia, Northern Territory and Queensland.
Both are looking forward to the opportunity with fond memories of last year’s carnival.
“It was great to meet new people, you never stop laughing the whole time,” Sam said.
Both said their representative commitments had improved their games particularly under the guidance of their Argentinean coach who has extensive knowledge and background of the game.
Both Sam and Chase live in Singleton and played for Singleton’s under 16s team this year.
Keen soccer followers Sam supports Liverpool while Chase follows Spain’s Real Madrid with both aspiring to play at an international level one day.
