Parramatta big guns to take on Singleton Bulls at home

05 Mar, 2010 09:46 AM
AS predicted last week, the Bulls got their season off to a mighty start with a 4 tries to 3 victory on the road at Forster.

The NSW Volunteer Coast Guard was forced to issue a Tsunami warning following the massive impact of the Bulls at the beach, a message sure to be heard loud and clear in Newcastle prior to the regular season.

Of great promise, solid games were had by some new faces and one young gun.

Luke Knight decided to leave the PCH boys behind, along with his ordinary form from the cricket season.

Luke had a very active game around the breakdown, in a good sign for both the colts and the senior teams.

New second rower Charlie from Dubbo played the tight role with great aplomb and dominated in the lineouts.

With both these areas issues for the Bulls last year, Charlie's addition looks to be a good acquisition in 2010.

The biggest suprise for the touring party was the strict standards imposed in Forster after the game.

Local fashionista Dean Cruickshanks was reportedly refused entry to a licensed premises due to his stylish ripped jeans.

Despite explaining that these were $300 designer jeans that are seen in all of Sydney's hottest nightspots, the bouncer stood firm and insisted Dean return in boardies and thongs to gain entry, as per the local custom.

Tonight marks the official start to 2010 with the season launch at 7pm at the Rugby Club.

The season launch is open to all players, supporters and sponsors.

The Club would once again like to thank Max Bailey First National Real Estate and Best Tractor Parts, our preseason sponsors for the past two years.

The Hilltop Caltex service station has also come on board as a sponsor this year to the delight of the club.

The biggest news of the week is the visit of the Parramatta Rugby Club to God's Acre for a series of trial matches.

Both the Singleton seniors and colts will be taking on the might of Parramatta, whilst the main game will be between Parramatta first grade and the Newcastle representative team.

Word on the rugby grapevine is that Jarryd Hayne and Daniel Mortimer may be appearing for Parramatta in a cross-code warm up before the NRL season.

This is yet to be confirmed, but all signs point to an exciting day at Rugby Park on Saturday.

Local representative stars James Callagnan, Gareth Ernst and Jake Miller will be playing the Sydney big guns, and are eager to see how their big guns fair against those from Sydney.

Singleton Colts will be kicking off at 1.40pm on Saturday.

Singleton first grade will start at 4.20pm, whilst the Parramatta and Newcastle game will kick off at 6.20pm.

So get on board the Hayne-train, or more importantly the Bulls charge, and show your support on Saturday as the Bulls take on Parramatta in the first home trial for 2010.
