SINGLETON will take on Australia when Countryfest’s bull ride gets underway on March 27.
The event will be the first of its kind with local cowboys set to battle it out against the Australian Bushmen’s and Campdraft Assoc-iation’s top eight ranked specialists in a pure power struggle.
Lining up to represent Singleton will be our best cowboys led out by bull rider and team captain Craig Heffernan.
The local contingent including Cody Heffernan, Tyler Corrigan, Matt Mapp, Matt Griffiths, Chris Clarke, Brett George and Trefor Sproule will have a tough task taking on Australia’s best.
However the strength of Singleton’s bull riders is something to be proud of.
The Australian team set to take on our Singleton boys will be captained by Australian champion Tom McCallum, Dave Mason, Tye Parkinson, Blayne Parkinson, Troy Wilkinson, Tom Henry, Tim Amey and Mat Sharman.
Each bull rider will ride two bulls, their aggregate team scores will determine the winning team.
According to Countryfest coordinator Peter Heffernan the local cowboys will be doing their best to secure a win on home turf.
“This is the first event of its kind where a single town will take on the county’s best,” Mr Heffernan said.
While the team event will see Singleton take on Australia each bull rider will also be chasing individual points with the top five scorers getting a chance to ride a string of Matt and Rachel Adams bucking bulls.
There is a $2000 prize pool up for grabs which will be shared among the night’s top performers.
Spectators will get a special treat in between the bull riding rounds with a mini bareback ride set to take place.
Mr Heffernan is looking for a couple of strapping young Singleton lads to nominate themselves to see if they can last the full eight seconds.
Anyone up for the challenge, who is aged 13 to 14, can contact organiser Peter Heffernan on 0431 048 348.
The bull ride starts at 6.30pm and will follow all the action of The Singleton Argus Australian Wife Carrying titles and the inaugural running of The Albion Hotel World Husband Dragging titles.
Countryfest will be held on Saturday, March 27.
It is a great family day out that will be jam packed with loads of entertainment and a few laughs to boot.
