FIRST GRADE

IN what would have been the 2nd day of a two-day match between Valley and Creeks, and with Valley requiring 48 runs for victory with 6 wickets in hand, unfortunately Howe Park was deemed unfit for play and saw this match finish as a wash out.

At Cook 3, PCH had already claimed 1st Innings points last week, but were hoping for outright victory against JPC. With Aaron Hoskin looking down the barrel of a century, PCH batted for 7 overs, but unfortunately Hoskins fell just short, dismissed for 93, and PCH declaring at 8/230. JPC went back to the crease 132 runs behind, and when they were 6/30 after 10 overs, PCH were certainties to take the outright win, but unfortunately rain interrupted play with the score 6/45, with PCH only able to take the first innings points.

2ND GRADE

Valley Gold took on PCH at Cook 1, with Valley Gold batting first. Several batsmen got starts, but it was John Shaw on 51 who top scored out of Valleys 9/146 before rain stopped play. Daniel Higgins was the best of the Heights bowlers, with 3/23, before the game was declared washed out.

Valley Brown should have played Creeks at Cook 2, but the wicket was declared unfit for play.

Glendon faced JPC at Cook 4, with JPC bowled out for only 69. Nathan Kearny top scored with 27, with Luke Gardner taking 4/23 and Greg Thrift 3/7. Glendon lost plenty of wickets in chasing down the modest target, but still went home with the win, finishing on 7/78, with Greg Thrift top scoring on 15, and Clint Ratatagia and Nathan Kearny both taking 2/15 for JPC.

3RD GRADE

Valley faced PCH at Civic Park, with PCH electing to bat first. The Heights batsmen found things hard, losing a steady stream of wickets, to be bowled out for 73.

Dave Paget took 5/19, with Brad Shultz the only Heights batsmen to make a score with 34. Valley knew the rain was on the way and didn’t waste time in chasing down the total, with Lee Neuss (17), Matt Clements (22) and Daniel Kisi (15 not out) reaching the total in the 19th over to take the win.

At Cook 5, Glendon batted against Creeks and managed to score 6/153, with Marcus Downes top scoring on 45. B Tapper took 3/17 to be the best of the Creeks bowlers.

In reply, Creeks were well poised to take a victory at 6/113, but the tail crumbled in the ordinary conditions, to bow out at 129. Marty Carroll top scored on 39, with Joel Herbert taking 3/11 to be best with the ball.

JPC Black and JPC Gold were to clash at Alroy, but was declared washed out.

This Sunday, February 14, will be the first grade one-day grand final.

Positions for this grand final came down to the wire with PCH on a quotient of 1.27 narrowly ahead of Valley on 1.16.

Because PCH is ahead of Valley, in the case of rain the game will be declared a win for PCH.

No doubt there will be a few players keen to get on the Howe Park wicket on Sunday to sort the result out on the field.
