A TOTAL of 67 cars from around NSW entered in the Hedweld Milbrodale Mountain Classic, with some of Australia’s top drivers competing.
The outright winner of the 196km classic was Mittagong’s Buddy Crowe and son Buddy Jr driving their Pro Class Buggy.
Second was Warialda’s Terry Rose and Shane Egan (Pro Class Buggy), third was Maitland’s Scott McNeil and Melinda Saxby (Super 1650 Buggy).
Local drivers had mixed fortunes over the weekend.
In Pro Buggy class, Mark Eveleigh and Kristy Hedley, had problems over the weekend with the Eveleigh car being forced to retire on the Sunday afternoon section of the long course with oil pressure problems.
Prior to the stoppage, this car did the fastest single lap of the long course and won the Man of the Mountain award, (Mark had stepped out of the car and Brad Prout was the driver at the time). Car 907 finished 12th in class and 26th outright.
Kristy Hedley and sister Rikki had problems in the first race on Saturday afternoon, and lost more time on the long course when a shockie snapped off.
The crew cable tied it up and sent her back out. The Hedley girls finished 13th in class and 30th outright.
In the Prolite Buggy class, our only local competitor was Damien Penfold and nephew Jarrad Eveleigh. This duo only managed to complete two laps of the event when they were forced to retire with a blown engine, placing 13th in class and 61st outright.
In the Super 1650cc Buggy class, Singleton’s Gary Hardie and Anthony Roberts had a great weekend, finishing second in class and 12th outright.
In the Sportsman Buggy class, Singleton’s Ian (Billy) Standing and daughter Traci had a great weekend by finishing second in class and 15th outright. Singleton’s Steven Honey and James MacDonell didn’t have a great weekend, as they were forced to retire when the selector shaft broke in the gearbox in the first section of the event. They finished 11th in class, 57th outright.
