PRE-SEASON training is well and truly in full flight at Rose Point Park with Singleton Roosters AFL Club training kicking off on January 3.
One month in and things are looking healthy, the best it has ever been for this of the season for many years. The club is currently training on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6pm sharp.
Numbers on the track have been consistently good and the healthy influx of new blood has brought smiles to the faces of the coaches and committee alike.
Coaches Tim Hare (1st Grade) and Mark Roser (Reserve Grade) have been impressed by the early commitment shown by the players and are buoyed by the spirit amongst the group. Both are eagerly looking forward to season 2012, which promises to be the best for the Roosters since their return to senior footy in 2006.
The club is currently organising trial matches in the run up to the season, which opens on Saturday, March 31, with the Roosers at home to the Warners Bay Bulldogs, a team the Roosters have in their sight for their quest to make the top four and return to finals footy.
In the lead up to the trial matches, the Roosters will be involved in the following events;
• A “Beach Boot Camp” day at Fingal Bay on Saturday, February 11, leaving the clubrooms at 7.30am and returning from Fingal Bay at 5pm. An invitation is open to all club junior players and families to join the senior group for the day if the weather is kind.
• Senior Club triathlon on Saturday, February 18, starting from the Singleton Gym & Swim pool at 8am, followed by a barbecue lunch at the Agi hotel.
The under 18s player numbers are still a concern and with the season fast approaching, the club will need to make a decision within the next few weeks as to whether it will be feasible to run this grade.
If you are U18 as at December 31, 2011 and you are interested in playing AFL for the mighty Roosters please contact Phil Huntington on 0407 289 131 or Paul Kelly on 0419 741 466
The Roosters welcome all who are interested in being part of a friendly and exciting up and coming footy club, be it as a player or not as a number of support roles are still required to be filled and we are keen to increase our support base. All players and supporters are encouraged to keep up with happenings at the Roosters by accessing the website “singletonroosters.com”.
