SINGLETON under 12s and 13s rugby union representative players returned from State carnivals with a wealth of playing experience to add to their young careers.
Representing the 12s were Luke Knight, Callum Shaddock and Brock Ward while the 13s representative players were Chris Edwards, Nathan George, Ben Frazer, Jacob Miller and Karl Russell.
The 12s competition was in Narabeen on the June long weekend.
The boys played four games and while they only won one game, the close scores indicated Hunter's competitiveness in the competition.
The eventual State champions was Gordon which only defeated Hunter by 12 points.
Callum played prop, Luke half back and Brock was in the forward pack and all three were thrilled to be included in the Hunter side.
It was the 12s first experience at State level and one they would like to have again.
'It was good, the competition was tough but it was a good experience and I hope I get in again next year," he said.
Thirteen teams contested the 13s State Championship at Sans Souchi on the June long weekend.
Singleton had five players in the Hunter side indicating the talent within this age group given the broad selection area players are chosen from.
The Hunter area incorporates the upper and lower Hunter, Newcastle, and Southern Beaches and areas of Morriset and Lake Macquarie.
These five players all made the representative side in the 12s age division and were pleased to be able to build on their game experience by taking part in the State titles.
The team managed to win a spot in the semi final of the competition defeating Illawarra and Central Coast before being caught in a difficult situation between Parramatta and Randwick.
In a close tussle with Parramatta Hunter lost seven points to five but the result eliminated Parramatta from the finals because they had already lost to Randwick.
The boys were unsure who eventually won the competition but think it may have been the ACT.
All said it was a great experience and like the 12s representative players, hope they have the opportunity to play again next year for the Hunter side.
The 12s and 13s carnivals in June completes another successful representative season for Singleton juniors.
