The team of three year 10 students Rowan Vallance, Cameron Andrews and Lucy Nichols won the secondary section in the competition with Rowan gaining first place in the 16-18 years class before being named the champion secondary school individual winner.
The competition has been held for 21 years and this year attracted 230 competitors from 22 schools including schools from Tamworth, Central Coast and Mid North Coast.
Sponsored by Xstrata Coal the over judge this year was Ned Williams from Polldale Shorthorn Stud, Dubbo.
In the primary school’s section the winning team came from Sandy Hollow Public – Kristy Walker, Olivia McLean and Luke Sheen. Kristy won the primary section in the individual judging and was the best overall judged on the day.
Sandy Hollow also won the steer donated by Jim Joliffe with the secondary steer, also donated by Mr Joliffe, won by St Joseph’s College, Hunters Hill.
Kirkton Public School won the primary schools encouragement award with student Nicole Searles gaining third place in the judging competition.
