HEIGHTS Bakery Under 10 Reds arrived at Merriwa early Saturday morning faced with an extremely big challenge to secure a berth in the finals.
The challenge being that they needed to beat an extremely strong Aberdeen on Saturday and then topple the comp front runners Scone the very next day as well as hope other results go their way.
Well by mid-morning Saturday the first hurdle had been achieved with the team downing Aberdeen 20 – 4 with special mention to Cooper Hannan, Campbell Harris and Chris Fry.
By kick off Sunday other results had gone their way and it was all up to them, they now had to beat Scone a team who had put a good margin on them at the previous two encounters.
Starving the Scone side of possession early the boys were on from the get go and a beautiful cross field kick from Campbell Harris found Sam Geale showing good hand skills to gather and ground the pill for an early lead with the wrecking ball Tyson Atton converting to make it 6-0.
It was great platform work from the forwards in particular Chris Fry not only for his tireless hit ups but his bone crunching defence which his team rode on the back of to go in again.
And it was the slippery Sam Geale crossing over for a first half double after beating numerous Scone defenders.
It was now Scone’s turn to reply and it wasn’t long and they had hit the front 12 – 10 and looked like going on with the win.
But the resilience of the red pups defence would stand out at the right time when Scone broke through for a certain try, Will Lambkin was there to make a desperate try saving tackle to keep his team’s season alive.
Great attack play by the boys saw the plastic man Mason MacDougall stretch over for the match winning try to give the boys a 14-12 win and keep the dream alive.
All of the boys can consider themselves man of the match today as their performance were outstanding.
They are really gelling at the right time and playing some good footy to boot.
A stand out. With the team now heading in the right direction it’s onwards and upwards.

Radiator Express Whites boys are doing well considering they have had no reserves.
Ethan Holland continues to impress and Aiden George had a blinder last weekend.
So proud of Jamon Groves-Goodwin scoring his first ever try against Denman.
Consistent efforts from Jake Watt, Adam Morris, Hamish Snape, Tupou More, Harry Campbell and Tyson Ayshford. Keep up the good work boys.

Emdee Engineering Whites played Muswellbrook Gold at Merriwa on the weekend.
The whole team played very well with Singleton convincing winners 34-4.
Jaymon Mathews and Jack George had very good games, as well as some very strong defence from Sophie Clancy.
Well done white pups for ending the regular season as minor Premiers
Heights Bakery Reds faced Aberdeen resulting in an entertaining fixture which saw both sides playing good football but ended up sharing the chocolates scoring 20 points each.
Attack on the day was a dramatic improvement resulting in some nice tries to Max Andrews, Same Geale and Mason McDougall bagging a double.
Special mention in attack for Ethan Starr, Dylan Peat, Campbell Harris and Muzz Eade plus in defence Cooper Hannan was a stand out.
With the team now heading in the right direction it’s onwards and upwards.

Forsythes Division 1 in what ended up a tale of two halves the side played a very fit Cessnock at home.
In the first half the boys proved they could mix it with Cessnock with the whole team aiming up and defending against their individual man.
With ball security a priority the boys from fullback Coop Toshack to forward Jake Domek played to the game plan and the boys found themselves in front six nil at half time.
The try scored by Blake Trees was well constructed by Elliot Earnshaw and Kobe Davies.
Isaac Martin and Josh Johnson defended with gusto but obviously the Cessnock boys had a bit more fire in the belly, because after oranges they hit the park running and in a dominant second half they run over the top of us literally.
Although finishing 22-6 the boys have proved they can match it with the best now they have just got to last the distance.
As good old dad said “learn to tackle around the legs” the boys will be buoyed at having Heath Thomas back next week to strengthen the forwards and no doubt are looking forward to their semifinal versus Muswellbrook this Saturday at home at 9.50am.
So feel free to come and cheer the boys on, go you red dogs.

Caltex Division 2 took on West Newcastle in the last round of the competition needing a win to cement second spot and a home semi-final this weekend.
The boys turned up with a great attitude once again and didn’t disappoint with a comprehensive 34 – Nil win with some great team tries scored during the game.
Over the last month, the boys have started to gel well as a team and the results are showing at the business end of the season.
Best of luck boys heading into the finals.
