SINGLETON High Schools open girl’s touch side edged out Hunter Sports High 4-3 in an exciting final to become the Hunter All Schools District champions.
The team remained undefeated throughout the competition at Nelsons Bay after wins against Wingham 3-2, Belmont High 3-1, Whitebridge High 4-2. In the final against Hunter Sports High it took a drop off to decide the winning team.
The girls now compete against the best teams from the North Coast of New South Wales in a bid to qualify to contest the state finals in August.
This was the first time the open side had become the Hunter School Champions after many close attempts in the past.
Teliah Buckton said tthe success of the team was due to the fact that all the girls were close friends and had played together for several years within school and in town competitions.
“Our combinations work well cause we’re on the same wavelength,” said Teliah.
The experienced side believed that they were capable of going further in the next competition but conceded that it only gets harder from here.
