THE residents of Singleton will shortly be in a position to pass judgement on the performance of their council at the ballot box.

That is the line offered Local Government Minister Don Page’s media spokesman.

In other words, it is unlikely that an administrator will be appointed so Singleton residents will have to go to the polls on September 8.

If there are not enough nominations to fill the 10 councillor positions, those who nominate will be automatically elected.

A couple of new faces turned up to last Thursday’s information session for prospective councillors.

There have been another couple of residents who have indicated an interest.

Singleton deserves to take great strides into the future but it can only do that with a positive and energetic agenda driven by an equally positive and energetic elected body.

The destructive situation that now exists within the elected body has to go and if an administrator isn’t an option to create a cooling off period, this election is shaping up to be one of Singleton’s most important.
