MANY hands make light work and proof is the result of the community tree planting on Sunday to mark national tree day.
Around 50 people turned up at Nowlan Park at 9am on Sunday morning and spent the next 90 minutes planting more than 1000 native trees in a prepared area of the park.
Xstrata Ravensworth Surface Operations donated $2,500 to the cause and a number of employees turned up on Sunday to give a hand.
Some of the trees were planted by school students on Friday with the community lending a hand on Sunday.
The planting along the cycleway through Nowlan Park began nine years ago. Until then the area contained just a few popplas.
Now it is covered in healthy trees but there is a good reason behind this long term project.
The trees reduce the area that needs to be mowed and saves Singleton Council money.
