TWO major projects that will impact on everyone who lives in Singleton are the central business district strategy and the waste strategy.

Singleton Council has gone to great lengths to involve the community in both these projects with extensive consultation, public meetings and forums.

First to the streetscape strategy. Consultants have been working with the community and council to devise some ideas.

They will be holding forums on Thursday, between 2pm and 4pm,and later from 5pm to 7pm, and want your input.

If you own a business in John or George Street you should attend. Your business is not just about what happens inside.

Your business can be hugely impacted by what happens around it, be it a fantastic nearby park that brings in hundreds of visitors or a decision to stop shop front parking.

Now is the time to listen to the architects and hear their ideas and to have your own say to ensure the outcome is something we are all thrilled about.

Everyone has a whinge that the shopping in Singleton is hopeless. Stop complaining and let’s work together to make this a top spot to shop, stay and play.

Now onto the waste strategy.

This is the sort of boring process that no- one will want to do or say anything about until they get a bill that says they will be paying more.

A combination of increased state government waste levies and the carbon tax impact will result in an increase in the money you pay to dump waste. That’s a given.

The waste strategy is a process to try and deliver long term cost benefits while continuing to provide waste services households in Singleton need.

Take part in the survey.

We all complain that there isn’t enough consultation. Well this is another chance to get involved and help create the type of service Singleton people need and use.

Congratulations

GOOD luck to all the candidates at the upcoming local government election.

From Tuesday The Singleton Argus will give each nominee the opportunity to, in their own words, explain who they are and the platforms and policies they stand on.

Don’t forget, “meet the candidates”, is on Tuesday for your chance to meet and greet our potential future civic leaders.
