MISSING letters and a lack of notification to residents was the reasoning behind the deferral of a development application (DA) on Long Gully Road, Wattle Ponds.

At this week’s council meeting resident Gail Gill spoke to councillors about how some of the people in that area had not been informed of the DA and their queries were not answered.
The DA proposes to develop a subdivision of 89.5 hectares over five stages creating 75 lots for development which involves the demolition of four existing dwellings on the area known as the Wattle Ponds North Environmental Living Estate.
The land lots will range in size from 8,000 square metres to 23,323 square metres with the average lots size to be 10,947sqm.
The report recommended the DA to be approved on Monday however Councillor Tony McNamara moved the motion that it was deferred.
Director of planning and regulated services Mark Ihlein said that the letters had been sent out but only to those who shared boundaries with the property and had made a submission to council.
However Cr McNamara sited the 2006 council operations document that states when a new DA is lodged all immediate common boundaries and all properties opposite, even diagonally must be notified.
“We must look at our system to make it fair for all it’s only a matter until the meeting after Easter,” Cr McNamara said.
Deputy mayor Godfrey Adamthwaite said that he was originally going to vote for the motion because it seemed that it was sound but after hearing about the confusion from residents voted for the deferral.
The development could be the answer to the poor road condition on Long Gully Road with the owner of the DA property having to upgrade the road.
Starting from the intersection with Retreat Road to the beginning of the S-bend curve at the northern boundary line and continues for a further 200m north of the boundary to include upgrading the curve.
A new curved road connecting Retreat Road to Long Gully Road, approximately 400m with a small cul-de-sac will also be created as part of stage one of the development.
Another road, being a ring road 1700m in length, will be created to stage three to provide access to new lots on the eastern side of the development.
New town water connections will be made to service each of the lots.
