As the adage goes a week is a long time in politics and that was certainly the case for our state government last week.

One doubts very much if any of us could have foreseen the outcome from the latest Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) inquiry. First our Premier Barry O’Farrell was in the witness box at ICAC and the following day he had resigned.
But now we have a new Premier, the former treasurer, Mike Baird. We wish him well in his new job and we hope he is able to achieve great things for our state.
He has publically stated and in his previous role acted to ensure infrastructure programs are given a priority saying there had been a decade of neglect in the state when it comes to development and construction of major infrastructure projects.
Now infrastructure projects sound like a very boring topic not something to get all emotional or worked up about but these projects can and do make a huge impact on our lives.
Just take a look at the Hunter Expressway for example. What a wonderful piece of long overdue infrastructure that is – how much more pleasant is it now for us here in Singleton to move around the region and onto the Central Coast and Sydney.
Plus how much quicker is it for people to come and visit our region – great news for our local tourism operators and also for all our businesses to obtain goods and services.
Across the full spectrum of society from those attending university to those attending medical appointments or simply enjoying a trip to the beach the Expressway is a godsend.
That road has also improved the amenities for people who live along the New England Highway in places like Branxton and Lochinvar. No more heavy transport passing through those towns and villages every day.
So yes infrastructure can change lives for the better and we have been neglected in that area for too long.
So now Mr Premier is our local area we would love to see some more projects like the replacement of the ageing pathology and radiography departments at the Singleton Hospital.
We also want to see work to improve the notorious intersection of the New England and Golden Highways. What a bottleneck it was last Thursday afternoon.
And we also want to see work progressing on the Singleton bypass. We hope the Premier is listening.
