The program has been running on a national level for 16 years and during this time the gift of warmth has been given to over two million people in need.
For the past seven years the Burdekin Pharmacy has been participating in the appeal, collecting rugs, blankets, jackets, cardigans or basically anything that can keep kids warm and sending it to their head office in Sydney.
From here it is distributed to those in need thanks to Save the Kids Australia.
An organisation that provides education, health, protection and emergency relief programs to vulnerable children.
Pharmacy assistant and one of the local program coordinators, Mary Roots said every year without fail the talented ladies from Alloy Hostel knit up a storm.
“They have been strong supporters of the cause,” she said.
“They are a lovely group of women led by June Shaddock and they have been knitting for months.”
Mary said they appreciate their efforts and all those in the community who have, and continue to, contribute such well-constructed garments.
“We also accept donations of wool from those who can’t knit.”
“For those who do, we also have pattern books available and if you swipe your Guardian club card when you drop a garment off you will go into the draw to win one of 10 $200 Spotlight gift vouchers, “she said.
After the appeal ends the Burdekin Pharmacy team will also be hosting morning tea to thank the community for their support.
