Singleton Junior Rugby League

THE Hunter Mutual Singleton JRL teams will go into finals battle this weekend with all competitions now at the business end of the season.

At Cook Park tomorrow it will be Auscoal Super Semi-final day with both Major and Minor semi finals being held in the Under 10 and Under 11 age groups.

It has been another strong season in these age groups for Singleton with both Under 10 teams facing each other in the Major Semi following their one-two finish. Not to be outdone both our Under 11’s finished second and third to cap a great year during the regular season.

Also tomorrow the Under 9’s will begin their traditional end of season transition into mod league. Singleton’s three teams will form two teams (Red’s and Whites) and there is no doubt they will relish the opportunity on the open spaces of the mod field.

Our older teams began the task of finals football last week and returned some great results with five of the seven teams competing being successful in either Qualifying or Elimination semi finals. Unfortunately both the Under 13(1) and Under 13(5) bowed out of contention with the team decimated with injuries in recent weeks. Both teams can be proud of their efforts nonetheless.

One of the highlights at Cook Park tomorrow will be the formal presentation to the beneficiaries following the annual charity fundraising events in June.

Over $15,000 was raised at the beyond blue dinner and ‘Women in League’ Pink Saturday promotion largely thanks to the support of event sponsor Xstrata Coal. Try and make it a priority to stick around for that occasion mid morning.

Being the last home game one of the club’s great sponsors the Singleton Bike Rack have kindly donated a children’s bicycle that will be raffled on the day. What a great birthday or Christmas present that will be.

Tomorrow will also be unusual in that our remaining five 12’s to 16’s teams will be on the road to further their finals campaign meaning that only the mini-mods will be at Cook Park.

As a result extra effort will be needed in the canteen due to no overlapping games while the ground set-up will require an early start from 7.30am for those that are responsible for those duties.

FAO’s, Ground Managers and even referee’s are also in short supply this week so coaches and managers are urged to ensure they have people in place otherwise their games will be cancelled. Some minor changes and adjustments to the draw have taken place at the request of neighbouring club’s so please use the following times or our website for the correct information.

Good luck to all teams competing this weekend.
