The long delayed but much anticipated opening of Glendonbrook's first every fire brigade shed took place this morning in glorious winter sunshine.

And with around 25mm of rain in the district the previous day everyone who attended the opening was smiling.
The official opening was to take place last October but a severe bushfire at nearby Mt Tangory put paid to those plans with local fire fighters too occupied with the fire fighting to find time to celebrate their first shed.
Along with the official opening more than 1416 years of volunteer membership of the Rural Fire Service (RFS) was also recognised with NSW RFS deputy commissioner Rob Rogers on hand to present medals to 38 local members.
Two national awards were also given to Belford RFS members Glen Shearer with 54 years of service and Ernie Bendeich 59 years of service.
Member for Upper Hunter George Souris congratulated the medal recipients and thanked them and their families for their families for their years of dedication.
"They show such bravery and selflessness in very difficult circumstances and our community is very grateful for their work," he said.
The land on which was $319,000 shed was built was donated to the community by Glencore.
