During the weekend, 21 teams of anglers including women and juniors, made their way out to Lake St Clair to compete in Round four of the competition. Each team had a total of five hours each day to weigh in five bass on lures or fly only.
The lake is in excellent condition and the fish were no different, during winter the bass pack on weight and become very active. Teams were targeting the fish in a few feet of water as well as right out into the deep, with plenty of bass caught on both days.
Team Smico – Anglers John Picton and Wayne Smith managed to win overall with a total of 8.584kg for eight fish. Coming in second was team Stalker Fishing - Dave Lane and Steve Newman, with a weight of 8.396kg. Third place was taken out by team Pulling Hard – Paul Beavan and David Eccleston with a 7.614kg bag of fish. The Big Bass Award of the round went to Wayne Smith with a cracking 49 cm fork length fish. Well done to Ben Hiep with team Rumpole, who fished both days by himself and still managed to achieve fifth overall.
A special thanks to Peter Phelps and his sponsor 13 Fishing, for providing some juniors who entered with a brand new 13 Fishing rod each. A very big thank you to all the sponsors who got on board including Pete and Carol from the Glenbawn Kiosk, Steve Chang from Team Lured In/Platypus, Mal, Carol and Luke Draper from Duff Rods/Pure fishing for their donations and help over the weekend. Lucky door prizes were on offer as well, which meant that almost everyone was bound to win a prize
