Andreas joined the team on Monday and starts squad swimming trials next week and brings 13 years of swimming coach experience to the position.
His role as head coach will see him orchestrating the three swimming squads mini, junior and senior and assisting with the YMCA’s different stages of the Learn to Swim program.
Seniors could do 10 squad sessions a week, juniors train up to seven times and minis swim four times.
Andreas will also act as a liaison between the Coal & Allied Singleton Swimming Club and the YMCA centre.
The head swimming coaching role has been vacant for 18 months and the YMCA are excited for the launch of this season’s squad program.
“I’m here to mentor and motivate the swimmers and aim to keep the kids in the sport making them lifelong swimmers and who knows there could be some potential champions here in Singleton,” Andreas said.
Andreas’ last position was at Canberra’s Burley Griffin Swim Club where he was head coach for three-and- a- half years, he’s also been a competitive swimmer for 34 years.
Andreas’ said that swimming is great for children because it is one of the safest sports you can do and you can do it well into old age.
